Senator Yaw and Representative Everett announce funding for Petersburg Road Improvement Project

HARRISBURG – Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) and Representative Garth Everett (R-84) announced that Washington Township, Lycoming County, will be receiving a $308,000 grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) under the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) for the Petersburg Road culvert replacement and roadway improvement project.

With the CFA funding, Washington Township will correct stability, safety and drainage concerns along the roadway.  According to township officials, the existing surface of Petersburg Road is severely deteriorated, and the structural strength of the roadway is not adequate for the type and volume of daily traffic, prohibiting the safe movement of trucks, school buses, automobiles, farm equipment and horse-drawn vehicles.  Township officials add that Petersburg Road is the sole access to commercial businesses, farms and several residential properties in the township.

“I was pleased to advocate for this local project,” Yaw said.  “As a supporter of Act 89, we worked to ensure that funding was made available for these types of projects.   Our community and citizens will be the beneficiary of this important investment.”

“This funding is going toward badly-needed work on Petersburg Road and will be a help in improving safety and travel for residents,” said Everett. “I am grateful for all of the work that was put in to secure this grant.”

The MTF provides financial assistance to municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, rail freight and ports to enhance communities, pedestrian safety and transportation assets.

Eligible projects include but are not limited to: rail service, bus and transportation center improvements; streetscape, lighting, sidewalk and bicycle/pedestrian safety enhancements; coordinating transit services; rail-freight sidings and freight track upgrades; airport development and improvement to Pennsylvania’s ports.
