Everett, Wheeland, Yaw Announce Grants for Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services Companies

HARRISBURG – Reps. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming/Union) and Jeff C. Wheeland (R-Lycoming) and Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Bradford/Lycoming/Sullivan/Susquehanna/Union) today announced the awarding of fire and emergency services grants for Lycoming and a portion of Union County.

“Our fire and emergency service companies are continually working to protect the residents of our region and deserve support from the Commonwealth,” said Everett. “On top of that, have to hold frequent fundraisers just to keep their doors open and their equipment up-to-date. These hard-working men and women are deserving of this support from the Commonwealth”

Wheeland agreed.

“So many of our emergency responders are volunteers and invest a great deal of time and money into their work,” said Wheeland. “The least we can do is help with training and equipment costs to help ensure their safety and the safety of the people they are working to assist.”

Yaw stressed the importance of aiding fire and EMS companies to help save lives and property.

“The funding awarded will help ensure that our local volunteer fire companies and emergency responders are there when we need them most,” Yaw said.  “Many of our local departments depend on fundraisers to keep their doors open, which is why this money is very important when it comes to funding facility improvements or assisting with fire or EMS training and certification.”

The grants, which are funded with state gaming proceeds, are administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. The grant program was created by the Legislature.
