Environmental Quality Board to Hold July Hearings on Oil and Gas Issues; Senator Yaw Urges Public to Attend and Provide Input

The Environmental Quality Board will hold two public comment sessions in the region to provide citizen input on the proposed revisions to the Chapter 78 oil and gas well construction and casing regulations in July, according to Senator Gene Yaw (R-23).  The recommended changes deal with well inspections, construction and reporting to reduce gas migration and protect underground water supplies.

"These updates to current regulations have been met favorably by the industry," Yaw said.  "By revisiting these laws, it allows us keep them up to the standards we need to protect our communities and environment.  Public input is very important in how those standards are determined, and I urge area residents who have questions, or concerns specific to these proposed regulations to attend and offer that input."

The hearings will be held at the following times and locations:

People submitting public comments will receive 10 minutes to provide oral testimony and are encouraged to pre-register to be sure they are given enough time.
