Loan Packages Announced by PENNVEST(WILLIAMSPORT) At its annual board meeting in July, the PENNVEST Board awarded two Lycoming County municipalities low-interest loans to make improvements that will protect area water supplies, according to Senator Gene Yaw, R-Lycoming. The Williamsport Sanitary Sewer Authority will receive a 20-year loan in the amount of $4.471 million at 1 percent for the first five years and 1.51 percent for the remaining 15 years. These funds will be used at the Authority’s West Plant to address nutrient removal being mandated under the Commonwealth’s Chesapeake Bay Nutrient Reduction Strategy. Duboistown Borough will also receive a 20-year loan in the amount of $2,679 million. The terms of the loan are similar to Williamsport. This collection system is a tributary to the Williamsport’s system. The funding will assist the borough in meeting overload capacities that it has been experiencing at the Borough’s pumping station, resulting in the discharge of untreated sewage to the surrounding area. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has also announced two recycling grants recently. Lycoming County will receive $269,089 from the Recycling Performance Grant Program. The amount is based on 15,613 tons of material recycled during calendar year 2008 and the county’s population. Susquehanna County will receive $21,678.90 under the County Recycling Coordinators Grant program. This program reimburses 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator’s salary and expenses. | ||
