Yaw Announces Grants for Flood Control ProjectsHARRISBURG – State Senator Gene Yaw (R-Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Union counties) today announced $330,000 in state funding for flood-related improvement projects in Lycoming and Susquehanna counties. The funding, 25% municipal share of the total project costs, was approved by Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Stream Improvement Program. Monies will assist in repairing damages along streams in the two counties impacted by flooding from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in 2011. A $270,000 grant was awarded to Lycoming County for construction and repair along Engle Run, Loyalsock Creek, Pleasant Stream, Plunketts Creek, Lycoming Creek, Glade Run, and Little Muncy Creek. In addition, two municipalities in Susquehanna County, Great Bend Township and Little Meadows Borough, will each receive $30,000 for flood-control projects that include the construction of 300 feet of riprap and 140 feet of stacked rock in Denton Creek at 29800 State Route 171 in Susquehanna; construction of 142 feet of riprap in Denton Creek at 29981 State Route 171 in Susquehanna; installation of 275 feet of riprap on the Apalachin Creek; 80 feet of stacked rock on the Apalachin Creek and 40 feet of riprap on a tributary to the Apalachin Creek. "Following the devastation from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, many of our waterways, streams and stream banks were completely decimated," Yaw said. "We have a long road ahead of us to make the necessary repairs, but this funding will certainly assist in that regard." | ||
