DEP Grant Funding Providing Incentives to Recycle in PA

(Harrisburg)  Several area local governmental entities will receive recycling grants according to Senator Gene Yaw, R-Lycoming.

Lycoming County, under the Recycling Coordinator Grant program will receive $42,569.57 to be used to reimburse 50 percent of the county’s recycling coordinator’s salary and expenses.

Yaw noted that Towanda Borough in Bradford County will receive $3,163 based on 236 tons recycled for the 2008 and the town’s population.

Union County will receive $2,197.04 to be used to reimburse 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating a household hazardous waste collection event last November at the Mifflinburg Borough recycling Center.

Finally, The Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority is receiving a household hazardous grant of 45,492.01 to reimburse 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating a collection event last June at the Tiadaghton Area Transfer Station in Delmar Township, Tioga County.

“All of these grants provide an incentive to recycle in Pennsylvania,” Yaw said.  “Act 101, which was enacted in 1988, has been extremely successful in promoting recycling across Pennsylvania.”
