Local Communities Organizations Receive State Grants and Low-Interest Loans

(HARRISBURG)  A recycling performance grant, a museum grant and a low-interest fire loan have recently been awarded to local organizations, according to Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Lycoming.

Canton Borough, Bradford County, will receive a $5,040 Recycling Performance grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).  This amount is based on 292.2 tons recycled for calendar year 2008 and the borough’s population.  These incentives are provided by DEP and the General Assembly to encourage recycling across Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission recently awarded a $10,000 general operating grant to the Lycoming County Historical Society for its operations of the Thomas T. Taber Museum in Williamsport.

Muncy Creek Community Fire Company will receive a $50,000 low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Office of the State Fire Commissioner.  These funds will be used to refinance debt incurred on a recently purchased 2009 ambulance.  The Volunteer Loan Assistance Program (VLAP) provides low-interest loans to volunteer fire companies, ambulance services and rescue squads for the purpose of purchasing and modernizing apparatus, facilities and equipment.
