Yaw Bridge Naming Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

HARRISBURG – Legislation to officially rename the Market Street Bridge in Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, has been unanimously approved by the full House and Senate and has moved to Governor Tom Corbett’s desk for signature, according to State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23).

Senate Bill 723, sponsored by Yaw, will now designate the Market Street Bridge, linking the birthplace of Little League Baseball with the home of the Little League World Series, the “Carl E. Stotz Memorial Little League Bridge.” The bridge carries U.S. Route 15 over the Susquehanna River.

“I want to thank my colleagues in the General Assembly for recognizing the significant contributions of Carl Stotz as the Founder of Little League Baseball,” Yaw said. “Carl Stotz was a champion of organized youth sports and the positive impact of his labor is well documented around the world.”

“The family is delighted at the honor that has been bestowed upon our father,” said Karen Stotz Myers, daughter of Carl Stotz. “We are grateful for the efforts of Senator Yaw, Representative Mirabito and Representative Everett for sponsoring this legislation.”
