Yaw Alerts PHEAA State Grant Recipients of Potential Flood-Related Casualty Loss Assistance

HARRISBURG – State Grant recipients who have received funding through the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) and who have suffered casualty losses as a result of the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, or other disasters, are encouraged to complete and submit a Casualty Loss Form for possible reconsideration of their State Grant award, according to State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23).

PHEAA announced that the form has been made available on their website. In addition, State Grant and Special Program staff are available to answer your questions at 1-800-692-7392.

“My staff stands ready to assist any recipient who may have difficulty navigating through this process,” Yaw said. “I would encourage all those who have been impacted by the most recent flooding and who qualify to complete and submit the form.”

It is PHEAA’s policy to give special consideration to a student’s State Grant applicant when it is determined that a family’s ability to finance educational costs has been reduced as a result of losses incurred due to fire, storm, or other unforeseeable circumstances.
