Yaw Amendment Will Rename County Bridge After Fallen Soldier

HARRISBURG – State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) today offered an amendment to House Bill 2460 honoring a Williamsport soldier killed in Afghanistan.

United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Abram Howard died on July 27, 2010 from injuries sustained in an ambush while on patrol in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan, with Afghan National Police and his fellow Marines. Lance Corporal Howard was 21 years old.

Yaw’s amendment officially designates the Duboistown Bridge, carrying State Route 2064 over the Susquehanna River between Williamsport and Duboistown, as the “Lance Corporal Abram Howard Memorial Bridge.”

“Lance Corporal Howard was a brave soldier who put himself in harm’s way to protect our way of life,” Yaw said. “His death is a tragic reminder of the dangers that our men and women in uniform face every day while serving overseas. Renaming this bridge in his honor will serve as a lasting reminder of his sacrifices and ensure that his legacy is not forgotten,” Yaw added.”

House Bill 2460 now moves to the House of Representatives for concurrence.
