HARRISBURG – State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) and Representative Tina Pickett (R-110) today announced $80,500 in scholarships to families of Bradford and Susquehanna counties through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Representatives from the Bridge Educational Foundation, a scholarship organization recognized as an approved 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, joined Associated Wholesalers, Inc., Chesapeake Energy, Waste Management and Williams-Transco Pipeline officials to make the announcement at St. Agnes Elementary School, Towanda.
School officials and families from Faith Mountain Christian Academy, New Milford; North Rome Christian School, Rome; St. Agnes Elementary School, Towanda; and Epiphany Elementary School, Sayre, were also in attendance as the Bridge Educational Foundation presented the scholarships.
“Today’s scholarships are another example of the success of the Bridge Educational Foundation and Pennsylvania’s EITC program,” said Senator Yaw. “These public-private partnerships strengthen our educational programs, while expanding academic opportunities for our children throughout our state.”
The EITC program provides companies with a 75 percent tax credit, 90 percent for a two-year commitment, for funds donated to approved, non-profit scholarship or educational improvement organizations.
“Each of these companies are to be commended for the contributions they are making toward educational opportunities and improvement in our region,” added Senator Yaw.
Since 2001, more than $570 million has been donated by the business community through the EITC program.
