HARRISBURG – Nearly 6,000 residents of Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Union counties recently participated in two live “tele-town hall” meetings hosted by State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23). Yaw fielded questions from callers throughout his senatorial district on a number of state-related issues.
“Tele-town halls provide a great opportunity to speak with many residents across my senate district and learn more about their concerns,” Yaw said. “This type of meeting allows callers to listen in, offer opinions, and even ask questions from the comfort of their own home. It’s a simple and straightforward way to have a good dialogue, given many people’s hectic schedules during the summer months.”
Thousands of residents across Yaw’s district received a call on Tuesday, July 16 and Tuesday, July 23 inviting them to join the tele-town hall that evening. Listeners were then given the option to ask questions or remain on the line to listen to the on-going discussion.
In all, Yaw took a variety of questions from residents throughout his district. Some topics discussed included: the 2013-14 state budget; education reform and charter school funding; the lack of a comprehensive transportation funding plan and its impact on rural transit agencies and rural roadways; gas drilling lease agreements and current drilling technologies; questions relating to gas royalties; current emission testing laws and regulations; the current state of Pennsylvania’s waterways and the impact on fishing and aquatic life throughout the northern tier; as well as the enactment of Obamacare and its impact on Pennsylvanians, just to name a few.
The tele-town hall is a new way in which Yaw is reaching out to residents across the 23rd district.
“Given the good discussion and positive feedback, I look forward to holding additional tele-town halls in the near future,” Yaw added.
