The 28th Annual Sullivan County Health Fair is the place to be on Saturday, October 26th from 7:00a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the Sullivan County High School in Laporte.  Where else can all Sullivan County residents receive a free flu shot, learn about flu prevention and get a free pneumonia vaccine as well?  And if that is not enough, there will be a variety of wellness activities to keep you up and about! You can see how much fun it is to participate in Zumba,  Golden Zumba,  Healthy Steps in Motion and more… so please  wear sneakers or soft soled shoes to this year’s Health Fair in keeping with our wellness theme…Every Day Health.

As in years past, there will be a variety of organizations present to provide information about health care opportunities such as homecare, child development, parenting, breast health,  counseling, tobacco cessation, cancer care,  total joint care, exercising for better health, medical supplies, nutrition, bike and public safety, domestic violence awareness and much more!

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department will be there to monitor the disposal of your used or expired medications.  Please bring these prescriptions in their original containers with the personal information blacked out and they will ensure their safe and proper disposal.  The Sullivan County EMS Council will be on hand to provide you with a crash course on “Hands Only CPR” come & learn this life saving practice.

There will be many door prizes and freebies.    Free Graco Pack N Play cribs will be given to qualifying families with an infant or young baby.  You need only come to the Health Fair and complete an information sheet and you’ll leave with a crib. We want to make sure you know the most current safety information on safe sleeping for babies; come and try out the Safe Sleep Interactive Kiosk.

The Health Fair is a family event with flu shots for everyone in the family.  We have an area just for the little ones with a story time, puppets and an assortment of crafts.  There will be a sports nutrition talk “How Your Plate Gives You the Competitive Edge?!”  given by Geisinger Sports Medicine for our sports minded students and their parents.

This year another Bike Rodeo will be held.   The rodeo will be held from 10:00am-11:00(weather permitting).  Youngsters will test their bike skills and be awarded a certificate for completing the course.  A parent needs to accompany each rider to register for this fun event.  All participants in the bike rodeo will have a chance to win one of the five new bikes.  The rodeo is for children ages 5 years and up.

Free children’s bike helmets (child must be present) will be handed out while supplies last!  If your child needs a new bike helmet please arrive at 9:00am for a fitting.
