Hunter-Trapper Education Classes Planned for Senate District

Hunter-Trapper Education Classes Planned for Senate District

HARRISBURG – State Senator Gene Yaw (R-Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Union counties) announced today that the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) has scheduled additional basic Hunter-Trapper Education (HTE) courses for September, prior to the fall hunting seasons.

Yaw said the courses are all within his Senate District and increase the opportunities for new hunters or furtakers to complete the required basic classes.

“As an avid sportsman, I know firsthand that our hunting and fishing heritage plays an important role in our Commonwealth,” Yaw said.  “It is incredibly important that we nurture and encourage the next generation of sportsmen who want to participate in these outdoor opportunities.”

Before purchasing a PA hunting or trapping license, all first-time hunters and trappers, regardless of age, must successfully complete Hunter-Trapper Education training.

“With over 900 classes offered each year across the state, there is a good chance that you can find a class being offered nearby,” noted PGC Executive Director Matt Hough.  “Additionally, this year was the first that we offered the course in an online format. This gives individuals age 16 and older the opportunity to complete the course without the requirement of attending a class.”

According to the PGC, there is no fee for the basic HTE course; however, pre-registration is required and online registration is available for all hunter-trapper courses offered.  There is a $19.50 fee for those who successfully complete the online course.
