Waste Coal Facilities Hearing

Please be advised that I have scheduled a public hearing of the Senate Environmental Resources & Energy Committee for Tuesday, October 11th at 10 am in the Carbon County Commissioner’s Conference Room, Courthouse Annex Building, 3rd Floor, 2 Hazard Square, Jim Thorpe, PA.

The purpose of the hearing will be to solicit testimony on the importance of Pennsylvania’s waste coal facilities on the environment and economy.  These facilities clean up legacy coal refuse sites with zero costs attributed to taxpayers.  Without these facilities, the Department of Environmental Protection estimates that the cleanup would take upwards of 500 years and cost billions in taxpayer money.

Immediately following the hearing, the committee is invited to tour Olympus Power’s Panther Creek Energy facility in Nesquehoning, PA.

If you have any questions, please contact Adam Pankake of my office at 787-3280 (apankake@pasen.gov).
