State Legislature Declares April 23-30 “Conservation District Week”

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania State Senate and the House of Representatives have declared April 23-30, 2017 as “Conservation District Week” in the Commonwealth.  The dates coincide with Earth Day (April 22nd) events and celebrations.

Members of both Chambers this week approved unanimous consent resolutions recognizing the event.  Sixty-six of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties have a conservation district office. These offices have volunteer directors and staff who work to enhance locally led efforts that support the wise use of the State’s natural resources.

“The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. has developed a strong reputation for the highest quality of service throughout its history,” said Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23), Chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.  “The Senate is proud to extend warm wishes to the organization and recognize the week of April 23rd as Conservation District Week in Pennsylvania.”

“We are excited to celebrate Conservation District Week,” said Brenda J. Shambaugh, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts. “We must support our conservation districts so they can protect our local areas.”

The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. primarily serves as the collective voice for Pennsylvania’s 66 county conservation districts. Over the years the Association has played an integral part in shaping the modern conservation district by providing advocacy, education and training, program coordination and facilitation to districts and their constituents.

The PACD has earned a reputation for effectively tackling new challenges, working directly with private organizations, business and industry partners, and many federal and state agencies. Through a statewide network, the PACD leadership supports a multitude of locally led conservation efforts and stands ready to address future issues.
