State Senate Declares May 5th through May 11th, 2019 as “Conservation District Week” in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG – The state Senate today declared May 5th through May 11th, 2019 as “Conservation District Week” in Pennsylvania, according to state Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23), sponsor of the measure.  Members of the Senate approved a resolution recognizing the event.

Yaw noted sixty-six of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties have a conservation district office. These offices have volunteer directors and staff who work to enhance locally led efforts that support the wise use of the state’s natural resources.

“Through leadership, education and planning, our county conservation districts are committed to protecting our natural resources,” said Yaw, Chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.  “They are the boots on the ground when it comes to conserving our natural resources and developing programs and projects consistent with environmental stewardship.  I am proud to extend warm wishes to our county conservation districts and recognize the week of May 5th as ‘Conservation District Week’ in Pennsylvania.”

“We are excited to celebrate Conservation District Week,” said Brenda J. Shambaugh, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. (PACD). “We must support our conservation districts so they can protect our local areas.”

PACD serves as the collective voice for Pennsylvania’s 66 county conservation districts. Over the years the Association has played an integral part in shaping the modern conservation district by providing advocacy, education and training, program coordination and facilitation to districts and their constituents.

The PACD has earned a reputation for effectively tackling new challenges, working directly with private organizations, business and industry partners, and many federal and state agencies. Through a statewide network, the PACD leadership supports a multitude of locally led conservation efforts and stands ready to address future issues.
