On Monday, June 1st, the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee will hold a joint Senate hearing with the Senate Finance Committee to discuss Governor Wolf’s proposed severance tax on natural gas, as well as its impact on the Commonwealth. The hearing will take place at 10:30 a.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the North Office Building. Watch LIVE
Those expected to offer testimony during today’s hearing include: Pennsylvania Department of Revenue Acting Secretary Eileen McNulty, Independent Fiscal Office Director Matthew Knittel, representatives from the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association, Marcellus Shale Coalition, Pennsylvania Grade Crude Coalition, Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center and the Commonwealth Foundation.

On Tuesday, June 2nd, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing to consider the nomination of John E. Wetzel as Secretary of the Department of Corrections. The hearing will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Capitol East Wing.

Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month intended to bring attention to the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. Today, nearly one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Nearly two thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s Disease are women.
Alzheimer’s Disease is characterized by confusion, irritability, aggression, mood swings, language breakdown, long-term memory loss, and loss of bodily functions.
Awareness and
information related to funding, mental and cognitive fitness, ethical care and
support, support for family and non-professional caregivers, workforce retention

On Thursday, May 28, I joined the Williamsport Area School District (WASD) for a groundbreaking ceremony that will initiate renovations to STA Stadium at the Williamsport Area High School athletic complex.
The ceremony marked a milestone in the WASD Education Foundation's “Return to Glory” capital campaign, a community effort to restore and upgrade the deteriorating 43-year-old high school stadium.

On Friday, May 29, I joined
Compass Natural Gas for the groundbreaking
of their CNG Quaker Terminal in Montoursville. The groundbreaking is part of
Compass' overall mission to get “more PA gas to more PA people” in areas of our
region that aren’t serviced by natural gas.

[Sen. Yaw joins Rebecca Barrows, recipient of the 2015 Jersey Shore Area Chamber of Commerce FBLA Scholarship & Craig Harris, Chair of Jersey Shore Area Chamber]
On Thursday, May 28, I joined members of the Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce for a discussion on Governor Tom Wolf’s 2015-16 budget proposal. Other topics of discussion included Governor Wolf’s executive nominations and a state severance tax on natural gas. During the meeting, I was also able to congratulate Rebecca Barrows who is the recipient of the 2015 Jersey Shore Area Chamber of Commerce FBLA Scholarship.
