My Latest Op-Ed: Skill Games Mean Jobs for Pennsylvanians

Senate Bill 1079, which I sponsored to regulate skill games, offers a critical opportunity to protect and grow jobs across Pennsylvania. This bipartisan legislation supports an industry that hundreds of businesses and thousands of workers depend on.

Unfortunately, skill games have become a political target because it is easier for some to dismiss the facts and vilify the machines than to take the time to understand the economic value they bring to our communities.

They support the manufacturers who build them, the distributors who deliver them and the operators and technicians who service and maintain them. They help small businesses, veterans’ organizations, social clubs, taverns and convenience stores stay afloat.

Funding for Mifflinburg Police Department

Protecting our communities means making sure our local police have the tools and resources they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently.

I’m proud to have secured funding for Mifflinburg P.D. to support the purchase of body worn cameras and automated license plate readers. The new technology is designed to improve officer safety and enhance the department’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to criminal activity.

Annual Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture

Each year, I look forward to hosting my annual “Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture,” with dozens of participants representing agriculture and agribusiness in Bradford and Sullivan counties.

Held at the Endless Winds Fire Hall in Shunk, Sullivan County, attendees included Secretary Russell Redding of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, farmers, agribusiness professionals, FFA students, dairy royalty, teachers and elected officials. The event also featured a discussion on farm legacy and succession planning led by PA Farm Link.

I’m incredibly grateful for the event’s generous sponsors, volunteers and speakers for making this another successful breakfast!

Union Co. Township Officials Hold Fall Convention

I had a great evening at the Union County Township Officials Fall Convention on October 22nd in Mifflinburg. It was great to connect with so many local officials and hear about the issues most important to our communities.

Local Fair Queens Visit Harrisburg for Advocacy Day

Thank you to Bethany Eberlin, 2025 Sullivan Co. Fair Queen, and Autumn Dersham, 2025 Union Co. West End Fair Queen, for stopping by my office last month for Fair Queen Advocacy Day.

The PA State Association of County Fairs invited all current county fair queens across Pennsylvania to the Capitol to discuss agriculture issues and their advocacy work with members of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees.

Up to $200 in Education Savings for Lycoming County Kids

State Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced during the month of November, families who claim their child’s $100 scholarship from Keystone Scholars and start saving in a PA 529 College and Career Savings Program account will be eligible for an extra $50.

And here in Lycoming County, thanks to support from Miele Manufacturing in partnership with the River Valley Regional YMCA, families can qualify for a second $50 bonus! That means families can get up to $200 in initial education savings deposits.

The first 95 families who claim their child’s $100 Keystone Scholars scholarship in November will receive an additional $50 deposit through the Lycoming County incentive.

I hope families in my district will claim their child’s Keystone Scholars account and start saving with PA 529 to take advantage of this extra deposit.

A Special Thanks to All Veterans

We set aside Veterans Day to acknowledge and celebrate our fellow citizens who answered the call to serve in the military, securing and defending freedom we enjoy year-round. We owe a debt of gratitude to veterans locally and across this great nation.

One way we show our appreciation is through the Veterans Trust Fund, which supports organizations that assist Pennsylvania veterans and their families in need of housing, financial help, food, training, recovery and more. Find out how you can donate to this fund here.
