Farm Plast Brings Jobs and Investment to Lycoming CountyA major economic boost is coming to Muncy, Lycoming County, as Farm Plast, a manufacturer of sustainable milk crates and food storage containers, recently announced an $8 million investment to open its first Pennsylvania facility. The company will renovate a 200,000-square-foot site on Sherman Street, creating 69 new jobs over the next three years. This expansion strengthens the region’s manufacturing and agricultural sectors while revitalizing a long-vacant facility. Supporting In-Demand Programs at Penn College
The Pennsylvania College of Technology will receive a 5% funding increase as part of the 2025-26 state budget, a reflection of the legislature’s growing recognition of the college’s vital role in workforce development and technical education. This vital increase will allow Penn College to maintain access for Pennsylvanians to dozens of in-demand programs such as welding, nursing, electrical and aviation maintenance – delivering life-changing opportunities for students, while also developing the Commonwealth’s future workforce. Honoring Ron Frick on His RetirementThe United Way of North Central Pennsylvania recently honored outgoing President and CEO Ron Frick on his retirement after 8 years in that position and decades of dedicated service to the organization. His commitment to our local communities and nonprofits will certainly not be forgotten. Congratulations, Ron! Wishing you all the best in your next chapter. Mansfield Municipal Police Academy Holds GraduationCongratulations to the Mansfield Municipal Police Academy Class #43 of 2025! The class completed the 25-week academy and had 919 hours of training, with every cadet earning their Act 120 certification and having a 100% pass rate on their state exams. Deb Rudy of my Wellsboro office was there to join in the graduation celebration. Thank you to the new officers for your willingness to serve our community! Grand Opening of Sweetspire Coffee and BakeryFounder Caroline Payne, along with her husband and business co-owner Nate Steele, and Brittney Gross, director of coffee, recently celebrated the grand opening of Sweetspire Coffee in Williamsport with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Elizabeth Vollman of my Williamsport office joined Rep. Jamie Flick at the ceremony for the café and bakery, which features coffee, sweet treats and syrups and extracts all done in-house. Mifflinburg to Hold 36th Annual Christkindl MarketCrafts, food, entertainment, lantern parade and a live Nativity will all take place at the oldest outdoor Christmas market in the United States! More information on vendors and schedule of events HERE. 2025 Christmas Tree Arrives at State CapitolThe 2025 Pennsylvania State Capitol Christmas tree, which arrived last week, is a 25-foot Douglas fir from Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Carbon County. This year’s official tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 8. The holidays are a great time to visit the Capitol, and my office is happy to help schedule a tour! Last winter, there were more than 8,320 vehicle crashes statewide, with 2,959 injuries on snowy, slushy or ice-covered roadways and 29 fatalities – 17 of those fatalities were attributed to crashes where a driver was going too fast for conditions and drove out of their lane. For safe travels this winter, check out the Winter Driving Guide and other suggestions from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, such as keeping an emergency kit handy. Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. Free and available 24 hours a day, 511PA provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. Look Out for Scams, Fraud and Theft During the Holiday Season
The holiday shopping season is prime opportunity for scams, fraud and theft. Some of the most common scams to be on the lookout for include bait-and-switch scams, skimming devices and fraudulent “cybersquatting” websites. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday offered several tips to prevent scammers from taking advantage when shopping online:
The Attorney General’s Office has set up a Scams Complaint Form residents can fill out should they encounter any scams. The FBI also provides tips on how to avoid holiday scams and identify skimming devices, which are estimated to cost consumers and financial institutions more than $1 billion per year. Fishing Gift Vouchers, Licenses on Sale
Gift vouchers for your favorite angler, along with Pennsylvania fishing licenses and launch permits, are now available from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Items for the upcoming 2026 season can be purchased at HuntFish.pa.gov or by visiting one of nearly 700 retail license issuing agents. Licenses, permits and vouchers purchased now are valid immediately for up to 13 months, from Dec. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2026. While in-person retail purchases remain popular, online purchases can save time and help you avoid long lines, especially right before the spring trout season, which begins statewide on Sat., April 4, 2026. Customers can choose an auto-renew option at the time of purchase. College Application Period is Open
The application period for most colleges is now open. If the process is new to you, you can find plenty of resources for the college planning and application process here. Find out which colleges have your major, as well as information for students with disabilities, veterans and adult students. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency can help you access student financial aid services, including grants, loans and other funding opportunities, including the new Grow PA Scholarship Grant Program.
