Nearly $5 Million in Funding for Local Projects
Great news! The 23rd District has been awarded $4,970,692 in state funding for community improvement, public safety and economic development projects. The awards were considered at last week’s Commonwealth Financing Authority Board meeting and approved through the Authority’s Local Share Account statewide program, Flood Mitigation Program and Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. Over $6.2 Million in NAP Funding Awarded in 23rd DistrictRecently, $6,226,577 in funding to assist low-income individuals, combat food insecurity and improve distressed areas throughout the 23rd District was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). The NAP allows businesses, communities and organizations to work together to revitalize our neighborhoods and improve access to job opportunities, quality education and affordable housing. Shapiro points fingers at PJM, the organization that manages our power grid, the real issue is deeper: we’re simply not producing enough reliable energy. It was great to welcome Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Secretary Nancy Walker to Penn College last week. The tour showcased Penn College’s bus maintenance technician apprenticeship program and highlighted recent state investments that strengthen this initiative. Penn College is setting the standard for how higher education can directly meet workforce needs through strong apprenticeship programs and hands-on training. Honoring Chief Aungst’s Service to Williamsport
Williamsport Bureau of Fire Chief Sam Aungst was honored for his upcoming retirement from the department during the most recent Williamsport City Council meeting. Elizabeth Vollman of my Williamsport office was there to present a congratulatory Senate citation. Beginning his career in 1992, Chief Aungst rose through the ranks to lead the Bureau as Chief in 2022. His commitment to public safety and leadership has left a lasting impact on the community. Congratulations to the 2025 Sullivan County Citizens of the Year, Tom and Kathy Robbins. As lifelong community servants, Tom dedicated over 50 years to the Muncy Valley Volunteer Fire Company and held leadership roles in local organizations, while Kathy served Sullivan County for 32 years as Treasurer and contributed extensively to civic boards and volunteer groups. Janenne Goliash of my Williamsport office was there to present Tom and Kathy with congratulatory Senate citations. Camp Susque Recognized by PA Chamber

PennDOT Driver License, Photo Centers Closed for Christmas HolidayThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Thursday, December 25, 2025, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications, and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website. Dec. 31 Deadline for Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
The deadline to apply for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is Dec. 31. Eligible residents could qualify for up to $1,000 (plus supplemental rebates for qualifying applicants). The program provides financial relief to older adults and people with disabilities who paid property taxes or rent in 2024. To qualify, applicants must be age 65+, widows/widowers 50+ or individuals with disabilities 18+, and their household income must be $46,520 or less (excluding half of Social Security income). Applications can be submitted online, by mail or in person, or by calling 1-888-222-9190 for assistance. My office is also available to help you apply for this rebate It’s Annual Dog License Time
The deadline to purchase an annual license renewal for your dog is Jan. 1, 2026. Many counties allow you to purchase a lifetime license. Licensing fees help the millions of dogs in Pennsylvania by funding the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement. If your dog gets lost, a current license is the fastest way to get your dog back home. Dogs must be licensed at the point of adoption or purchase, or at three months if no transfer of ownership has taken place. Annual licenses can be purchased online from your county treasurer in one location here. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
