Economic Development 101: The Williamsport Lumber Yards

Economic development is truly the process by which communities are transformed. Nowhere is this more evident than in Williamsport’s Lumber Yards project, which hosted its first tournament last weekend.

Drawing on Williamsport’s rich heritage as the home of Little League Baseball and leveraging its reputation to attract thousands of visitors each year, the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau and the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce stepped up to turn vision into action.

It’s a win for Lycoming County and a blueprint for economic development that would serve other communities well to study.

Tioga Co. Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture

We had a great day in Wellsboro last Thursday celebrating agriculture and all who make it Pennsylvania’s #1 industry.

The “Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture,” hosted by Rep. Clint Owlett and I, brings together local farmers, agribusiness professionals, 4-H members, FFA students, dairy royalty, teachers and elected officials to highlight important issues facing our region’s agriculture sector.

This year, we were also joined by U.S. Senator Dave McCormick and Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding.

Thank you to all of our attendees, sponsors and volunteers for joining us this year. We couldn’t do it without you!

Honoring Randy Allison for His Retirement

Randy Allison was honored recently for his retirement from Williamsport City Council. Elected in 2009, Randy served on Council from 2010 until his last official day of service on December 31, 2025. He served as Council President from 2019 to 2022 and served on the finance, public safety, public works and historic preservation committees.

Congratulations, Randy! Thank you for your many years of dedicated service to Williamsport. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter.

BAYADA Williamsport Visit

I appreciated the opportunity to visit BAYADA’s Williamsport office recently. BAYADA provides home healthcare services and supports people of all ages so they can remain safely at home. Through programs offered there, they are also helping tackle rural Pennsylvania’s healthcare workforce shortage by creating real pathways for people to enter the field, advance their education and serve their communities.

  • Innovation and Progress Award – Mountain Lake Electric Co.
  • Stars and Stripes Award – Children’s House Advocacy Center
  • Trailblazer Award – Stormy Wolf, Limitless Graphics

Congratulations!

Local Students Visit Capitol

Thank you to the students from Loyalsock High School for stopping by our beautiful State Capitol during your recent visit to Harrisburg!

Williamsport Community Perceptions Survey

The Downtown Williamsport Alliance is inviting residents, business owners, and visitors of Williamsport to offer their opinion on a series of standard perceptual questions about the community.

The purpose of this survey tool is to get a better idea of how people feel about common attributes that contribute to a “sense of place” within the business and residential district and to guide the organization in their revitalization strategies. This survey should take approximately 7-8 minutes and can be found by scanning the QR code.

First Batch of 2026 Money Match Unclaimed Property Checks Being Mailed

More than 100,000 checks, totaling nearly $23 million, are being mailed to Pennsylvania residents under the state Treasury’s 2026 Money Match program for unclaimed property.

Created by the General Assembly in 2024, Pennsylvania Money Match allows Treasury to return unclaimed property valued at up to $500 belonging to a single owner automatically without the need to search or file a claim.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, abandoned stocks, uncashed checks and more. Treasurer Stacy Garrity urges Pennsylvanians to regularly search online for unclaimed property, since some claims may not qualify to be part of Money Match.

Beware of Investment Scams on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp

Fraudulent investment schemes are appearing on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp featuring recognizable figures, like Cathie Wood (Ark Invest), Joe Kernen (CNBC) or Kevin O’Leary (CNBC) without their permission.

In these “pump and dump” schemes, victims are lured into online groups and convinced to invest in cryptocurrencies or low-priced stocks. The scammers advertise, hype and recommend buying the stocks or cryptocurrencies, increasing their prices, and then sell when the price is high, while the victims lose their money.

Attorney General Dave Sunday encourages anyone who may have been a victim of these types of scams to report it to the Bureau of Consumer Protection at 800-441-2555 or scams@attorneygeneral.gov.
