Senate Bill 626 Protects Small Businesses and Veterans’ Organizations that Rely on Skill GamesThe supplemental income from skill games that so many small businesses and veterans’ organizations rely on is at risk. Proposals are being introduced with tax rates so high, they could drive skill games out of business entirely. That’s why I introduced 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝟔𝟐𝟔, which protects these organizations from devastating taxes they can’t afford. I’ve spoken to operators, business owners, veterans and first responders at events across the state to showcase the importance of skill games. They told me they depend on the games to help pay their staff, pay their bills, maintain their establishments and pay for donations to help their communities. I asked them to tell their senators and representatives how skill games have helped their organizations and ask them to support Senate Bill 626. Learn more HERE. Protecting Your Right to Choose How You Power Your HomeA bill I sponsored to ensure Pennsylvania residents have choices when it comes to fuel availability was approved by the Senate last week. Senate Bill 311, known as “Energy Choice,” would limit municipal entities from banning a specific type of fuel source for appliances and heating homes or businesses. PHARE is a crucial part of our overall effort to improve our economy and provide affordable housing to our region’s residents. This funding is a substantial investment across the 23rd Senate District and will certainly provide help to those who need it most. It is important to acknowledge these dollars are made available, in large part, due to our natural gas industry. Read more HERE. Army’s 250th Birthday Celebration at the CapitolI was honored to join several of my colleagues and fellow Army veterans at the Capitol last Monday to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday. The celebration was a wonderful tribute to the Army’s legacy of courage, sacrifice and service to our nation. The Army is deeply rooted in our country’s history, and I was incredibly proud to stand with those who have worn the uniform to recognize this historic milestone. Little League World Series WeekIt was great to see some familiar faces from Lycoming County, home of the Little League World Series (LLWS), in Harrisburg last week. My good friend, Rep. Jamie Flick, introduced a resolution to recognize the week of August 17-23, 2025, as “Little League World Series Week” in Pennsylvania. I’m glad to see LLWS in the spotlight to highlight this great tradition. Rep. Flick and I were joined by South Williamsport Mayor Marlin Angelo, Little League president and CEO, Patrick Wilson and Williamsport Mayor Derek Slaughter. Legislative Coal Caucus Breakfast BriefingThe Legislative Coal Caucus, where I serve as co-chair, met last week in Harrisburg to hear from industry representatives on the current state and future outlook of coal in the commonwealth. Pennsylvania is the third largest coal-producing state in the United States with production totaling over 41 million tons from sixteen different counties in 2024. The Coal Caucus is a bipartisan, bicameral legislative caucus that focuses on supporting and enhancing Pennsylvania’s coal mining industry. The caucus serves as a forum through which legislators can become more educated about the coal industry and its significant economic value to local communities, manufacturers and energy ratepayers. Pennsylvania Pipe Trades Association Annual ConferenceOn Wednesday, I joined the Pennsylvania Pipe Trades Association at their annual conference in Hershey. We had a great discussion on training and workforce development, energy, grid reliability and what I’m working on in Harrisburg. Thank you for having me! Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week in PennsylvaniaI was pleased to join with Sen. Scott Martin to introduce a resolution designating the week of June 8th through June 14th, 2025, as “Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. Sen. Tioga County Fairgrounds Receive Funding for New Accessibility UpgradesExpand Energy recently donated funding and manpower to create a handicapped-accessible section at the Tioga County Fairgrounds. Because of Expand Energy’s generous gift and with additional monetary donations received from Raise the Region, this project will be completed prior to the August fair. Deb Rudy of my Wellsboro office joined fair officials and representatives from Expand and Raise the Region to celebrate. Good Citizenship AwardsNorth Penn-Liberty High School seniors, David Kshir and Ciara Kieser, were presented Good Citizenship Awards by Elizabeth Vollman of my Williamsport office during the school’s annual awards ceremony. This award is presented to students who display outstanding character, leadership and scholarship and demonstrate the willingness to accept responsibility and challenges. Congratulations! Senate Approves Bill to Secure and Modernize PA’s IT InfrastructureThe Senate unanimously approved two cybersecurity bills to strengthen the commonwealth’s digital defenses. Senate Bill 376 would ban TikTok from all state-owned devices and networks, citing national security risks. It would bring Pennsylvania in line with federal guidelines and action taken by more than 39 other states and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity. Senate Bill 377 would require all state IT contracts to meet cybersecurity standards established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a move aimed at protecting taxpayer-funded systems and reducing the risk of data breaches across state government. Both measures now head to the House of Representatives for consideration. Bill to Expand Naloxone Access, Support EMS Providers Passes SenateLegislation to strengthen emergency response efforts and help address Pennsylvania’s opioid crisis passed the Senate with unanimous support. Senate Bill 95 would make permanent the temporary declaration allowing EMS personnel to give a dose of naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, to a caregiver or loved one of someone who has overdosed. Although this life-saving medication has been approved for over-the-counter use, not all versions are readily available. This legislation would allow EMS providers to distribute any formulation at the scene of an overdose, including those still awaiting final approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration. Senate Committee Votes to Expand No-Cost Breast Cancer ScreeningsBuilding on Pennsylvania’s landmark law that provides no-cost breast cancer screenings for high-risk individuals, the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee this week unanimously advanced legislation to expand diagnostic screening coverage. Senate Bill 88 would make diagnostic screenings free for anyone who finds an abnormality on a supplemental screening. The bill expands the number of supplemental screenings available and ensures no-cost diagnostic imaging for patients. It would ensure coverage for those at average risk of developing breast cancer and expand access to lifesaving early detection tools for many Pennsylvanians. The measure advances to the full Senate for consideration. Happy Father’s Day!On Sunday, we recognized the love, hard work and dedication of the dads and father figures in our lives.
