On the Road

I had a great time kicking off the Christmas season in Sayre at the 25th Annual Christmas Parade!

A special thank you and congratulations to Dave Jarrett, who has served as Borough Manager for almost 27 years and has organized the parade since its inception. Great job, Dave!

Last week, I had a great visit to Prysmian Group to tour their Williamsport facility and discuss its recent manufacturing expansion.

Prysmian manufactures thousands of miles of underground and submarine cables and systems for power transmission and distribution, as well as medium and low-voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors. The company also produces a comprehensive range of optical fibers, copper cables and connectivity systems for voice, video, and data transmission for the telecommunications sector.

Prysmian was recently awarded $22.5 million in funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for a 51,000-square-foot addition to the existing building to create more manufacturing space.  The expansion will create at least 27 new jobs in Lycoming County, and once completed, it will double their capacity to manufacture advanced transmission conductors.

Thank you for having me!

In the United States, less than two percent of the population are farmers, and less than two percent have served in the armed forces. Veterans in agriculture, those who farm or engage in careers in agriculture, have the distinction of both protecting and being stewards of our lands.

Based on the 2017 Census of Agriculture, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is currently home to more than 7,000 military veterans identified as agricultural producers, with likely many more engaged in the various career fields in agriculture not captured in the census.

Area veteran organizations can apply for grants to help military veterans succeed as Pennsylvania farmers! Applications are due to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture by Dec. 15th.  Learn more and apply HERE.

Winter Life Jacket Requirement in Effect

Until April 30, all boaters are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket while underway or at anchor on boats less than 16 feet in length or on any kayak, canoe or paddleboard on all Pennsylvania waters.

A disproportionate number of boating fatalities occur from November to April in Pennsylvania, and cold water is one of the primary reasons. When water temperatures are less than 70 degrees, the cold water shock can cause an involuntary gasp, hyperventilation, breathlessness and a reduced ability to control breathing and swim.

A life jacket greatly increases your chance of survival in cold water. It also increases the amount of time for you to be rescued. Find more cold water survival safety tips HERE.

Protect Yourself with Free Weekly Credit Reports

The three national credit reporting agencies – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion – permanently extended a program allowing you to check your credit report at each agency once a week for free.

Visit AnnualCreditReport.com to request free copies of your credit reports. Other sites may charge you or be fraudulent sites set up to steal your personal information.

By reviewing your credit report, you can easily discover if information has been mistakenly reported about you or if someone opened credit in your name. Reporting mistakes and identity theft can help you build a strong credit score that will benefit you when you need to borrow money, secure a rental home and even apply for a job.
