Upstream PA 2020 Welcomes Senate Environmental Chairman Gene Yaw as Luncheon Keynote Speaker

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee Chairman Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) will deliver remarks during the 8th Annual Upstream PA Conference in State College on October 29th.

Upstream PA 2020 brings together the key upstream companies and experts in the oil and gas industry to discuss their projects over the next several years.  Attendees will hear how the recent price changes are impacting future development plans and what companies can do to position themselves for continued growth.

Senator Yaw will join previously announced speakers PA House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff; Dave Spigelmyer, President, Marcellus Shale Coalition; Steve Winberg, Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Pam Witmer, Vice President Governmental Affairs, UGI Energy Services and many others during the day-long event.  The conference is one of the longest running oil and gas conferences in the Appalachian Basin.

“There is more uncertainty than ever in the shale industry,” said Matt Henderson, President, Henderson Consulting Services, who will serve as moderator during the conference.  “Decreased energy demand from the last heating season coupled with increasing supply have suppressed energy prices to historic lows. The global war on oil has caused some operators to deeply cut their capital budgets for 2020 as well.  All that said, there are many positives in the Appalachian Basin, especially for some of the pure gas play operators. Decreasing oil drilling in West Texas has slowed the associated natural gas that comes with it. Does that provide new opportunities for the Appalachian Basin?  Do recent acquisitions mean more investment?

“Pennsylvania’s oil and gas sector is competing in a global economy,” Sen. Yaw said.  “We must be prepared to maximize our position as the second largest producer of natural gas in the nation to fully leverage the economic opportunities and create thousands of new, good-paying energy sector jobs.”
