Sen. Yaw, Rep. Hamm Announce PENNVEST Grant for Franklin Township Sewer Project

HARRISBURG – A Lycoming County sewer project will be receiving a state grant through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), according to state Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and state Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84).

As part of the current round of PENNVEST loan and grant initiatives, Franklin Township will receive a $2,757,804 grant to construct a new sanitary sewer system, as well as a new pumping station that will serve residential customers in the Village of Lairdsville.

“Lairsdville was founded in 1829 and like many of our communities, its aging infrastructure needs significant upgrades,” Senator Yaw said.  “Even as we face difficult economic challenges due to COVID-19, we are still able to make these investments to improve residents’ lives.”

“Infrastructure is critical to maintaining a high quality of life in rural Pennsylvania,” Representative Joe Hamm said. “I congratulate Franklin Township on receiving these important infrastructure dollars to construct a new sanitary sewer system and pumping station.”

The project will begin in June and will install approximately 8,500 feet of 8-inch pipe, 41 manholes, and 46 sewer laterals.  The pumping station will include 1,800 feet of 4-inch pipe and an emergency generator.  The completed project will eliminate malfunctioning and substandard onlot sewage systems.

“On behalf of the Franklin Township Board of Supervisors and its residents, I would like to thank the Lycoming County Water and Sewer Authority, Nittany Engineering, Lycoming County Commissioners, SEDA-COG, PennVest and our state legislators for their tremendous support in obtaining grant funding for the Lairdsville Sewer Project,” said Victor Marquardt, Franklin Township Board of Supervisors.  “The funding will greatly reduce the financial burden placed on the township and the users of the sewer system.  We are very grateful, and humbled by the amount of this grant.”

Established by the General Assembly in 1988, PENNVEST provides financial assistance for sewer, storm water and drinking water projects throughout the Commonwealth. For more information, visit www.pennvest.state.pa.us.
