HARRISBURG –State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) today announced $735,000 in state funding has been awarded to two projects in Union County through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The awards were considered at today’s CFA Board meeting and approved through the Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) Program and Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program.
“Today’s awards will enhance public safety and ensure our region’s infrastructure meets the needs of residents for years to come,” Yaw said. “I was pleased to advocate for this funding and work with my colleagues in the General Assembly and our local officials to help make these projects a reality.”
East Buffalo Township was awarded $410,000 from the MTF for improvements to West Market Street. Funding will be used to install sidewalks, lighting and streetscaping, improving pedestrian access to downtown Lewisburg, the park, community pool and to the elementary and middle schools.
Additionally, the Borough of Mifflinburg was awarded $325,000 in SWS funding for its Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project. Funding will be used for the replacement of 800 linear feet of sanitary sewer, manholes and lateral connections.
“The Borough of Mifflinburg appreciates the support that Sen. Yaw’s office has provided for the Borough’s CFA application,” said Borough Manager Margaret Metzger. “These funds will help the Borough complete some vital improvements to the Borough’s sewer collection system, improving service to customers.”
The MTF provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
The SWS Program provides grants for small water, sewer and storm water infrastructure projects. Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain a public water supply, sanitary sewer or storm water systems are eligible to apply if their projects exceed a total cost of $30,000.
