HARRISBURG –Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23), Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20), Rep. Tina Pickett (R-110) and Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) announced a recent $3,005,018 investment in the R.J. Corman Railroad Company in Bradford and Wyoming Counties for its Lehigh Tie Project. Funding was awarded through Pennsylvania’s Rail Transportation Assistance (RTAP) and Rail Freight Assistance (RFAP) programs.
“These targeted investments recognize the pivotal role freight lines play in grounding our economy and providing a reliable flow of goods throughout the region,” Yaw said. “I look forward to the growth and stability this funding will bring to my district.”
“This shortline railroad is a vital component of our local energy economy,” said Baker. “It supports area jobs, sustains product suppliers and helps residents and commercial enterprises with their energy costs. These investments are crucial to keep the traffic moving at capacity and ensuring safety.”
“Investing in freight rail improvements is an investment in our economy,” Pickett said. “By strengthening these critical rail lines, we are supporting job creation, business growth and a more reliable supply chain across the region.”
“Rail transport is vital to our Commonwealth’s and our country’s transportation network,” Owlett said. “The efficient and effective movement of goods means more jobs and opportunities across the Northern Tier.”
With the funding awarded last week, R.J. Croman will rehabilitate approximately 22 miles of track along the Lehigh Line. Improvements will include ties, ballast and surfacing.
The RFAP and RTAP are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Rail, Freight, Ports and Waterways. Pennsylvania has 65 operating railroads, the most in the country. It also has over 5,600 miles of track.
