Senator Yaw Votes to Confirm State Agriculture Secretary

HARRISBURG – The state Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee today unanimously approved the nomination of Russell C. Redding to continue serving as the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, according to Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23).

Governor Tom Wolf nominated Redding to serve as the 26th Secretary of Agriculture in January 2015, and was confirmed by the Senate on May 14th, 2015.  Redding is the former dean of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at Delaware Valley College.

“Secretary Redding has proven himself during his tenure at the Department of Agriculture,” Sen. Yaw said.  “Over the years, he has been responsive to the needs of the agriculture community in my Senate District.  He has been willing to meet one-on-one with many of my constituents, listening to their concerns and working with them to find common ground on a myriad of important issues.  Pennsylvania’s dairy industry, animal health and food safety are priority issues for me as a legislator, and I will continue to work with Secretary Redding on these issues.  Additionally, I will continue working with Secretary Redding on issues impacting the Chesapeake Bay and our state’s water resources, including avenues to improve our state’s stream cleaning efforts.”

Senator Yaw serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee.
