East Lycoming School District Receives $1 Million Grant for Solar Energy Program

East Lycoming School District has been awarded a $1 million state grant to establish a Solar Energy Program at its Hughesville Campus in Wolf Township, Lycoming County, according to Senator Gene Yaw (R-23).

“The new solar system will generate approximately 35 percent of the electric energy requirements of the school buildings at the project,” Yaw said.  “This will help to cut costs and improve energy efficiency – allowing the school district to “go green” when meeting energy needs.  I’m pleased that this important project – which will save money and protect our environment – has received state funding.”

Yaw said the grant was awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority and will be used to assist in the purchase and installation of a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system that will produce 709,000 kWhs of energy annually. The school district will partner with PPL Renewable Energy on the project as part of a power purchase agreement.

East Lycoming School District will provide $1 million and PPLRE will provide $1.407 in matching funds for the project.
