HARRISBURG – One hundred and one volunteer fire and ambulance service organizations throughout Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Union counties will share in more than $1.08 million in funding through the Fire Company Volunteer Ambulance Services (FCVAS) Grant Program, according to state Senator Gene Yaw (R-23).
All grants awarded were generated from slot machine gaming proceeds through a program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
The FCVAS program can be used for construction or renovation projects, equipment purchases, debt reduction and training or certification.
“The funds awarded under this state program will help ensure that our local volunteer fire companies and emergency responders are there when we need them most,” Yaw said. “Many of our local departments depend on fundraisers to keep their doors open, which is why this money is very important when it comes to funding facility improvements or assisting with training and certification. My office works directly with many of these local departments and are able to assist others if they have any questions or concerns.”
