HARRISBURG – State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and Rep. Garth Everett (R-84) today announced the approval of a $1.3 million state grant to help pay for elevating Turnback Road in Brady Township, Lycoming County, to prevent roadway flooding.
“Turnback Road is heavily traveled by residents of Brady and Washington townships, and when the roadway floods many motorists are forced to take a five-and-a-half mile detour,” Yaw said. “I am happy that the state is helping to pay for this crucial project to alleviate this problem.”
“Locals are familiar with this busy road being susceptible to flooding and sink hole damage, at times forcing commuters to take long detours for months on end,” said Everett. “I’m pleased to see this grant approved which will go toward raising the road and preventing such inconveniences in the future.”
The grant will help pay for the reconstruction of 1,000 feet of Turnback Road, including pavement reclamation, geotextile reinforcement, installation of 60-foot-long culverts, roadway embankment, guiderails and more. The total project cost is $2.2 million. The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through its Multimodal Transportation Fund Program.
Multimodal Transportation Fund grants may be used for transportation development, rehabilitation and enhancement projects, including work to improve streetscapes, lighting, sidewalks, pedestrian safety, transportation system connections and transit-oriented development.
