Senator Yaw’s Statement on DRBC Approval of Gibbstown Natural Gas Export Terminal

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania state Senator Gene Yaw (R-23), Chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee during the 2019-2020 legislative session, issued the following statement today:

I applaud the Delaware River Basin Commission’s approval of the marine terminal in Gibbstown, New Jersey, which will be capable of exporting liquefied natural gas from New Fortress Energy’s planned facility in my Senatorial District in Bradford County and across the Marcellus Region.  This Delaware River Partners terminal will provide a direct conduit to other countries who are looking for clean, abundant, responsibly sourced Pennsylvania natural gas, while helping to lower greenhouse gas emissions.  This is just the beginning.  It’s my hope approval of this project will resonate loudly across the world, and we can capitalize on this growing supply-demand gap, while creating new markets for natural gas.  Above all else, this strengthens our national security. People buying from us are NOT buying from Russia. And we know that gas is NOT produced in the environmentally sensitive manner in which it is done in PA/US. I look forward to continuing to work with the New Fortress energy team to ensure that we take full advantage of this opportunity to benefit our communities as well as to provide safe, clean, Pennsylvania natural gas to new markets.
