Yaw Secures $500,000 Investment for West Pharmaceuticals Expansion, Joins Local Officials for Groundbreaking Ceremony

WILLIAMSPORT — State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) today announced he has secured a $500,000 state investment to assist West Pharmaceuticals Services, Inc. with the expansion of their Williamsport manufacturing facility. The project is expected to create dozens of jobs in the city.

“This funding will provide additional capital to West Pharmaceuticals for their expansion and assist them in delivering life-saving injectable medicines, including vaccines, to communities in need,” Yaw said.  “Working with the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, I was pleased to support this project from the beginning, which will boost employment in the city.”

Yaw joined local officials today for the groundbreaking ceremony. West Pharmaceuticals is a global leader in innovative solutions for injectable drug administration.

Plans for this expansion, which will be a three-story expansion occupying 37,000 square feet of operations space, were first announced in 2021 as a significant commitment from West to continue investing in its Pennsylvania manufacturing sites, both in Williamsport and Jersey Shore. The city’s expansion will enable the site to produce compounded rubber product that will be further processed at West’s Jersey Shore site into critical rubber components used globally in the containment and delivery of life-saving and life-changing injectable medicines, including COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.

The compounded rubber product is currently produced at West sites in Florida and North Carolina. Increasing production capability in Williamsport will enhance risk mitigation for their customers, provide more efficient movement of product to their Jersey Shore site, and importantly, create many family-sustaining jobs in the Lycoming County region.

“We are very appreciative of the work that Senator Yaw did in partnering with us to assist West Pharmaceuticals with their expansion here in Williamsport,” said Jason Fink, President/CEO, Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.  “His efforts played a key role in their decision for the project to be selected for this site.  Our community will now see this new job creation occur here thanks to his work along with that of the Governor’s Action Team.  We are proud to work with him on these types of economic development projects for Lycoming County.”
