Sen. Yaw, Rep. Hamm Senior Expo Draws Hundreds in Lycoming County

Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) greets senior expo attendees at the Community Baptist Church in Montoursville.

MONTOURSVILLE- Hundreds of area seniors packed into the Community Baptist Church on Thursday for a senior citizens expo sponsored by state Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and state Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84).

“The amount of information out there for our older residents can be overwhelming,” Sen. Yaw said. “This free expo brought it all under one roof so our area senior citizens and their caregivers could ask questions and get answers on the spot.”

“Our senior expo is a one stop shop,” Rep. Hamm said. “I was excited to see so many take advantage of all the resources found at our expo. It makes it easy for our senior citizens to see what resources are available to them.”

Nearly 100 exhibitors were on hand to provide the most current information on state programs and services available to area seniors.

Vendors shared information about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, financial planning, government services and more. Complimentary document shredding was provided by North Central Sight Services.  In addition, the Lycoming County Sheriff provided a prescription medicine return drop box for unused or expired medications.

The event included a raffle, as well as donated baked goods and coffee offered by Buckin’ Bean Coffee Co.

The legislators also thanked the Community Baptist Church for allowing them the opportunity to hold the event at that location.

This was the 14th year the senator has been holding this event, previously with state Rep. Garth Everett and now Rep. Hamm.  No event was held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
