Public Hearing Scheduled to Discuss Municipal Ordinances Related to Student Housing

HARRISBURG – The Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee will hold a public hearing to discuss municipal ordinances related to student housing, according to committee Chairman, State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23).

The hearing will take place at 9AM on Thursday, October 4, 2012, in the Senate Majority Caucus Room, 156 Main Capitol Building, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17120.

“Pennsylvania’s colleges and universities are a significant asset to our communities, yet they present a unique set of planning and community development challenges,” said Yaw. “Municipal ordinances limiting student housing are becoming more and more common.”

Among those invited to testify at the hearing are the Pennsylvania Residential Owners Association (PROA), West Chester Apartment Housing Association, Apartment Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania Inc., Pennsylvania State Association of Borough’s (PSAB), Apartment Association of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Municipal League and the City of Reading.

Because of time constraints, there will not be an opportunity for a public comment period. However, written testimony will be accepted by the committee. The public can also submit comments at www.senatorgeneyaw.com following the hearing.
