Yaw, Pickett Announce Funding for Natural Gas Expansion Awarded in Wyalusing Borough

HARRISBURG –State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Tina Pickett (R-110) today announced $877,918 in state funding has been awarded to a natural gas expansion project in Wyalusing Borough, Bradford County through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s (CFA) Pipeline Investment Program (PIPE).

With the funding awarded today, Leatherstocking Gas Company will install 10,920 feet of natural gas line in Wyalusing Borough along State Route 6 and several streets within the borough. This addition will supply natural gas to 110 residential households and 60 commercial facilities and will serve the entire Wyalusing community. Additionally, funds will be used for engineering and administration costs.

“Projects supported by PIPE grants serve to connect businesses, industrial sites, municipalities and residents to natural gas to ensure they benefit from having access to Pennsylvania’s abundant, low-cost energy source,” Yaw said. “As sponsor of legislation establishing the Pipeline Investment Program, I am pleased to see our region continue to benefit from this funding. I am thankful to Rep. Pickett and our local officials for their support to help make these projects a reality.”

“The natural gas under our feet is a real asset for Pennsylvania and this grant will give additional residents of both Wyalusing Borough and Township access to it,” added Pickett. “Making investments like this in our communities is a great example of fiscally responsible use of taxpayer dollars.”

“Leatherstocking is excited and proud to be one of the recipients of a PIPE grant for our upcoming Wyalusing expansion project,” said Tony Dorazio, Leatherstocking Gas Company CEO. “This program was essential in helping make this project a reality, and we’re looking forward to delivering on our promise to deliver affordable, American natural gas to local people. Wyalusing is a growing community with a big vision, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

The legislators noted the total cost of the project is $1,755,836. Corning Energy Corporation will provide the remainder of the funds needed.

The PIPE Program was crafted by Yaw and signed into law as part of the state’s 2016 Fiscal Code. The program provides grants to construct the last few miles of natural gas distribution lines to business parks, existing manufacturing, and industrial enterprises, which will result in the creation of new economic base jobs in the commonwealth while providing access to natural gas for residents.
