Yaw Announces $250,000 for Knoxville-Deerfield Vol. Fire Company

WELLSBORO, PA – Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) recently joined members of the Knoxville-Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company to celebrate $250,000 in state funding awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Keystone Communities Program. The funding will support critical flood recovery efforts and the construction of the company’s new fire station in Tioga County.

“Protecting our communities means making sure our local first responders have the equipment and infrastructure they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently,” Yaw said. “I’m pleased to have secured this funding for the Fire Company and I’m proud to support their ongoing efforts to upgrade their facilities.”

The funding comes in response to the severe damage caused in Tioga County by Tropical Storm Debby in August 2024. The storm underscored the vulnerability of existing emergency response facilities throughout the impacted region, prompting the need for a safer, more resilient fire station built outside the floodplain.

“Our current building no longer meets the needs of our department, and we have experienced flooding at this location twice,” said Chief Mike Bloom. “This grant is a major step toward building a facility that better serves our community. We are extremely grateful to Sen. Gene Yaw and his team for their continued support and for helping make this opportunity possible.”
